Frequently Asked Questions

What is the process?

Our process is very simple! We work primarily remotely via email. Once you have decided on a service / package, you can easily pay on our website. You will then email your resume to info@foxvalleycareerconnections.com. It doesn’t matter how old or outdated your resume is, it will just be used as a foundation of information to help get us started. If you don’t have a resume, we can email you a questionnaire to fill out. Once we have your resume / completed questionnaire, we will send you a 1st draft within 24 - 48 hours (or 1-2 business days). This 1st draft is a content and information gathering draft that includes a variety of questions, clarifications, and instructions to help gain a high-level understanding of you, your skills, and your experiences. From there we will go back and forth with drafts until we have a final copy you approve of. We deliver the final copies to you in .doc, .pdf, .txt.

How long does the process take / when will I get my completed resume?

Each draft after the initial draft will include any additional follow up questions or clarifications we have, so timing depends on how long it takes for you to send us back the drafts and answer our questions. For some clients, the entire process takes 4-6 days and for some it takes longer. Most clients have their completed resume in hand after 2-4 drafts.

What is the background of the resume coach?

My background is in career services. After receiving a Master of Education (MEd) I become employed with a workforce development organization helping youth, adults, dislocated workers, and returning workers find training and employment through career coaching and placement services. After working my way into leadership positions, I spent many years overseeing programming, hiring, and training staff, and writing grants for services. After moving out of Chicago I started working for a large international company as a Resume Coach, assisting those who have been recently laid off create a resume. This is where I received formal training in resume writing.  After becoming a Certified Professional Resume Writer, I decided my talents, background, and experience could be used to venture out on my own and start my own company.

What type of clients have you worked with?

FVCC works with a variety of customers from diverse backgrounds and experiences. We work with those who are unemployed and looking to find secure employment; returning workers (those who are looking to return to work after a period of time-off); those currently employed but looking to climb the career ladder; or anyone who is just in need of a resume re-do in preparation for a job search. During 10+ years of experience we have worked with individuals of all types of socioeconomic backgrounds, educational experiences, various industries, and differing needs.

Can you guarantee I’ll get a job once I have my resume completed?

There are many variables that take place during the job search process, including the current labor market, field / industry you are in, hiring needs of the company, how well you interview, what your competition looks like, etc; therefore, to guarantee a job once we have finalized your resume would be an impossible promise. What we can guarantee is that our clients will see an increase in interest, more traction because of your resume, and ultimately more interviews. We create resumes designed to score well on applicant tracking system (ATS) software and intrigue a human reviewer.

What makes FVCC different than other resume writers / resume companies?

We are a small business dedicated to resume writing! We do not use resume templates, boilerplate language, or cookie cutter content, instead we custom write each and every resume we work on, designed to align specifically to you.

What is your approach?

We take a collaborative approach to resume writing. Our client’s voice is incredibly important. We view you as the expert in your field and take your information and content and massage it into quality resume language that makes an impact. Many resume companies will just take your resume and add in some additional, cookie cutter content; we go deeper, we want to know the details, what makes you good at what you do, and what will make you stand out up against others in your field.
